RED CURRANTS

Haronia

Haronia is a chance seedling discovered in Tiergarten in central Baden, and it impresses with its sweet aroma and very long grape bunches. The large berries are crack-resistant and therefore easy to store and transport.
Growth:
Growth vigor is slightly stronger than 'Red Lake'; denser foliage, therefore less risk of sunburn.
Ripening time:
early, before or with 'Red Lake', very long harvest window
Look:
Long bunches with very large berries; the color remains stable even when very ripe.
Quality:
Crack-resistant, long stem, easy to pick
Taste:
very aromatic, low acidity compared to other varieties
Yield:
Very fertile, requires sharp pruning; due to the vigorous shoot growth, high yields with very good fruit quality.
Special notes:
Very good wood health, therefore ideally suited for single-stemmed spindle cultivation; high susceptibility to powdery mildew, similar to 'Red Lake'.
